Zhen Lei, Professor at and Dean of School of Mathematical Sciences, Vice President of the China Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics, Director of Fudan Center for Applied Mathematics. 

Lei proposed the concept of "strong null condition" and discovered a nonlinear inherent strong degenerate structure for the system of incompressible fluid equations, and finally made a breakthrough by solving the long-standing open problem of the global well-posedness of solutions to the system of equations of two-dimensional elastodynamics by himself. This inherent structure and the discovered nonlinear equality became an important research foundation in the field. Based on them, he and his collaborators subsequently establish the global vanishing viscosity limit theory for solutions to the system of viscoelastic equations and the theory of local well-posedness for free boundary problems of incompressible elastodynamics. For incompressible Navier-Stokes equations, Lei and his collaborators obtained the global well-posedness of axisymmetric solutions in BMO^{-1} space and the Liouville property of ancient solutions, and established the dimension theory of sets of potential singularities and a geometrized non-blowup criterion for potential singularities. For nonlinear Klein-Gordon equations, Lei and his collaborators established a complete theory for energy casecade based on a generalized Fermi's Golden Rule, and the non-relativistic limit  with sharp convergence rate under sharp regularity requirement on the initial data.

Lei received his Ph.D. in mathematics from Fudan University in 2006. Since 2011, he has been Ph.D. Advisor and Professor of the School of Mathematical Sciences at Fudan University. He was Postdoc at Caltech in 2007 and became the Princeton IAS member in 2014. Over the years he has held various visiting positions at Peking University (3 months), Penn State University (5 months), Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences in NYU (3 months), California Institute of Technology (7 months), the Institute of Mathematical Sciences in CUHK (3 months), Department of Mathematics in NUS (3 months), Brown University (0.5 month), and Harvard University (5 months). 

Lei’s awards and honors include the Second Prize of the National Natural Science of China (2020), Chen Shengshen Prize in Mathematics, the XPLORER Prize (2022), the Shanghai Science and Technology Elite (2022), the Shiing Shen Chern Mathematics Award (2023), the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars (2017), the Changjiang Scholar (2019), and an invitation to speak at the International Congress on Hyperbolic Problems in 2017. He has delivered more than 10 plenary talks on various international conferences. His work is highly regarded by a large number of leading mathematicians and has also made a wide impact among the peers. He is now the Deputy Editors-in-Chief of Chinese Annals of Mathematics, a Board Member of Discrete and Continuous Dynamical System—A、Communications in Mathematical Sciences、Communications on Pure and Applied Analysis、Fundamental Research, Annals of Applied Mathematics, etc. 



雷震,复旦大学数学科学学院教授、院长,中国工业与应用数学学会副理事长,第八届教育部科学技术委委员,复旦大学应用数学中心执行主任,上海应用数学中心副主任。


雷震的主要研究领域是流体力学中的偏微分方程及非线性波动方程解的定性理论及应用,他提出了强零条件的概念,发现了不可压流体的非线性内蕴强退化结构,建立了二维不可压弹性力学方程组经典解的整体稳定性理论与自由边值理论,并在Navier-Stokes方程组轴对称解第一型奇点的排除与古代解的Liouville性质、粘弹与磁流体的整体粘性消失理论、非线性Klein-Gordon方程的能量级联理论与非相对论极限和波动方程的精确边界能控性理论等方面做出了重要贡献。


雷震于2006年博士毕业于复旦大学,2011年起任复旦大学数学科学学院教授、博士生导师。2007年在美国加州理工学院做博士后,2010年冬季在纽约大学做访问学者,2012年在哈佛大学做高级研究学者,2014年春季为美国普林斯顿高级研究院member


曾获2020年国家自然科学二等奖(第一获奖人)、2023年中国数学会陈省身奖、2022年科学探索奖、2022年上海市科技精英、2014年上海市自然科学牡丹奖、2011年教育部自然科学一等奖(第二获奖人)、教育部基础学科拔尖学生培养计划实施十周年优秀导师奖、首届“卓越青年研究生导师奖励基金”等,曾入选国家杰出青年基金、长江学者特聘教授、科技创新领军人才及国家自然科学基金委优秀青年科学基金、长江学者青年项目、青年拔尖人才等。目前在Communications on Pure and Applied Mathematics等国际知名学术期刊上发表论文50余篇,任Chinese Annals of Mathematics副主编、《复旦学报》(自然科学版)副主编、中国工业与应用数学学会内刊《CSIAM简讯》与《CSIAM通讯》执行主编及Discrete and Continuous Dynamical System—A、Communications in Mathematical Sciences、Communications on Pure and Applied Analysis、Fundamental Research、Annals of Applied Mathematics等多个国际期刊的编委。
